WordPress is run largely by volunteer contributors, including those who contribute to the core code base of WordPress. Every month various teams of contributors will work together to release maintenance updates, security updates and major updates.

WordPress 6.4.2 Maintenance & Security Release
WordPress released a security update on December 6th, 2023.
This minor release features 7 bug fixes in Core. The fixes include a bug fix for an issue causing stylesheet and theme directories to sometimes return incorrect results.
